Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalI didn’t pray but was curious. One evening, while our family was sitting in the courtyard with closed eyes and folded hands, I asked Father, “Who do we pray to? And why?” He said, “Prayer is to God; who else shall we pray to?” I had asked myself this question then: Is it true that He who they address as God is really God? Why is ‘He’ the God, not me, not you? Years afterwards, I discovered that Advaita philosophy had answered these doubts. It said, ‘Aham Brahmasmi (I am the Brahman), tat tvam asi (That thou art).
Varindra Kumar Varma
The author belongs to an agrarian family; his father was a freedom fighter and his mother an enlightened, devout lady. His was a religious family; the parents were disciples of Swami Akhandanand, and his sisters—Samvidananda and Geetananda—were Swaminee in Chinmaya Mission. He was a professor and the head of the philosophy department; earlier, he was a senior research fellow at Viswa Bharati. He specialized in linguistic philosophy and did further research on developing the in-built system of understanding vis-à-vis language learning. Understanding clarifies that there is no contradiction between the assertion: ‘one without a second,’ of the Vedanta philosopher and the statement of the critic that ‘we cannot deny the world we live in.’ Consciousness is the real essence of Jiva, but it possesses matter too, which is not the real stuff. This means that one part of the Jiva is authentic but the other is not. We should say then that ‘we do not question existence but question its authenticity.’
Professor Varma has been an acclaimed Hindi writer. He has published 6 books in English and 4 in Hindi. Some books on English grammar and language were rated 5-star and awarded 100% marks by reviewers from Amazon and Phi Beta Kappa.
