R. Kumaran teaches in the Department of Sociology at Gandhigram Rural University. His research is focused on developing a Gandhian research methodology for the social sciences, incorporating indigenous social philosophers like M.K. Gandhi and Ambedkar, and promoting Public Sociology that prioritizes the experiences of marginalized individuals. His publications reflect these research interests, with three out of his five books and many research articles highlighting the experiences of marginalized groups in social science epistemology.
