Babar Afzal

Babar is a former McKinsey Analyst, an Ethical Hacker and now the founder of the Global Pashmina Goat Project who quit his Silicon Valley career to herd goats in Himalayas six years back. He has been highlighting issues linked to the pashmina eco-system across Himalayas (displacement of communities due to climate change, low wages, fake pashmina, depression in community, forced migration etc.). He chose to become a shepherd and while travelling and living with Pashmina Goat Shepherds, Weavers, Crafts Men and Women across the Indian Himalayas understood the challenges faced by them. He is now making attempts to connect these original stake holders into the global luxury and fashion industry. Babar has held many press conferences, abstract art exhibitions, served legal notices to hundreds of fake pashmina traders, hosted pashmina fair trade events, advocated and influenced policy decisions and fought battles to safe guard the interest of these communities. With his selfless work, he has been quoted as “the most credible man on pashmina in the world”. A recipient of many national awards, he believes that disconnecting with small ambitions and pursuits of his own life, was the way to connect with the Universe which had a bigger plan for him.
