This book is a critical analysis of the anti foreigners movement, known as the Assam Movement which was led by the All Assam Students Union (AASU). It therefore looks at the history and formation of the AASU, the broad contours of the Assam Movement and its final outcome. It also analyses the Movement in the context of global students activism. It is the first book to analyse the Assam Movement from this new perspective.
Sanjib Goswami
Sanjib Goswami is a Professor of North East Studies at a local university in Assam, India. His specialization is in colonial and post colonial studies at the intersection of Bharatiyata. He also has a deep interest in peace and confliict studies. His doctoral thesis, now available as a book, is titled Frozen Identities: Genesis of Structural Violence in India's North East. Prof Goswami has wide ranging experience of over four decades in both action research and theoretical research.
