Millions of people are being affected by cancer each year and it has been estimated that about eight lakh new cancer cases are being added each year in India alone. World Health Organization categorizes cancers as lifestyle diseases and proposes faulty lifestyle practices such as chewing tobacco, smoking, alcohol, sugars, fats, consuming excess quantities of red meat, and foods rich in preservatives and additive as the predisposing factor for the occurrence of cancers. This could be prevented by healthy lifestyle with moderate exercises. Apart from lifestyle interventions, regular screening for cancers, counselling with a physician can help prevent the occurrence of cancers altogether.

Dr. M. Sivaramakrishnan, M.D.S., is currently serving as Associate professor, Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth (deemed to be university)Pondicherry. He has published more than 29 scientific articles in National and International Journals. He completed his MDS (Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology) from Meenakshi Ammal Dental College, Chennai. He has been in National advisory board member in DY Patil medical Journal and been a reviewer for various journals including Indian Journal of Dental Research. He is heading as a Principle investigator on two projects funded by Indian Council of Medical Research.
