Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalMetal matrix composites (MMC) possess significantly improved properties such as high specific strength, specific stiffness and good wear resistance when compared to monolithic metals. In the present scenario, the development of MMC plays a vital role in Industrial applications for Lighter materials due to their high specific strength, specific stiffness and wear resistance. In the class of various reinforcements used, fly ash is a most inexpensive and low density and low-cost reinforcement available in abundant quantities as solid waste by- product during the combustion of coal in thermal power plants.Squeeze cast composites resulted in better mechanical properties with an increase in wear resistance. Optical Micrograph revealed finer bonding between the matrix i.e. Al-4.5 wt.% Cu alloy and the reinforcements (fly ash and SiC). SEM analysis exhibited diffusion of the reinforcements in the matrix. Castings produced by squeeze casting technique were further broadened for the Forging process by fabricating a connecting rod with the base alloy and the composite. The same experimental work was validated by FEM analysis to compare the results is been presentede in the book eloberatly.
