The study of digital communications is an essential element of the undergraduate and postgraduate levels of present-day electrical and computer engineering programs. This book is appropriate for both levels. This book was written with two goals in mind: to provide the underlying principles of digital communication and to study design techniques integrated with real world systems. The ultimate aim of a communication system is to provide reliable transmission of information to the user(s). This fundamental foundation was established in 1948 by Claude Shannon, the founding father of information theory, and led eventually to the development of modern digital communication. Analog communication is near extinction or at the very gate of it. The full spectrum dominance of digital communication has arrived and new frontiers are being established every decade; from cellular systems to wireless LAN and MAN, the bit rates are being pushed ever higher for ubiquitous mobile applications.

Dr. G. Uma Gowri is presently working as the Principal & Professor in the Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering, Dhaanish Ahmed of College of Engineering, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. She has completed her B.E. from University of Madras in 1995, M.Tech and Ph.D from Anna University, Chennai, India in 1997 and 2015 respectively. She has 25 Years of Experience in the field of Education, Research and Administration at various levels. Her area of interests includes Optical Communication, Computer Communication Networks, Digital Communication, Wireless Sensor Networks and Biomedical Engineering. She is the Life Member in the Indian Society of Technical Education.
Dr. A. Umasankar earned his B.E from Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, India, M.E from karunya Institute of technology, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore, India and Ph.D. from St.peter’s University, Chennai, India. He is currently working as a Lecturer Grade (17/11) and Technical committee coordinator in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering Technology, at Yanbu Industrial College, Saudi Arabia. He has 22 years of experience in the field of Research and Administration at various levels. He has published 10+ Articles in Referred International and National Journals and Conferences. He is a Technical committee coordinator for ABET Accreditation Committee in EEET Department. He has received outstanding Performance award during (2015, 2016 and 2017).
Dr. P. Malarvezhi is currently working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur. She has 15+ Years of Teaching as well as Research Experience. She received her PhD degree from SRM Institute of Science and Technology (India), Master of Engineering Degree in Communication System from SRM University (India) and Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Madras University (India). She is an Editorial Board member and Reviewer in referred National and International Journals. Out of her Research activity, She has Authored and Co-authored 15+ Research articles in Indexed Journals, International and National Conferences. She has filed and published 3 Indian Patents. She has two Funded R&D Project in progress.
