Fire Drops

Author Name: Attia Abbas | Format: Paperback | Genre : Poetry | Other Details

Writing this book involved months of conscious and unconscious preparation. The Physical World, as it manifests itself in every second of life contrary to the world we live in and dream of, is the subject of my poems albeit from a subtly feminist perspective. I have consciously resisted the impulse to depict an imaginary world driven by longings and desires. Instead, I have tried to make a case for a world inhabited by better ‘human beings’ and a better ‘I’. These poems are universal. Students of literature will find these poems spontaneous and brutally honest, and at times, hard-hitting. They don’t address a particular society or set of people. Humans and human nature as it comes out in real life settings are central to my poems.

Life falls short if we fall short of words. But, if words fall flat, life is stagnant. I have always been shy of verbally expressing my thoughts, choosing instead to take refuge behind my pen. Insofar as the present collection is concerned, it has been a pleasure like never before.

Attia Abbas

Nothing excites a sensitive writer more than the helplessness of a human being battling to survive in turbulent circumstances. Notwithstanding the fact that Attia Abbas herself is not a victim of the society, nor has she had the occasion to face any societal pressure, her sensitive yet keenly observant nature has seen her empathize with those she speaks for. Without being affected, she demonstrates this unique ability to sense the pain of the oppressed.

Moving on, the transformation from the battling individual to the idealizing individual is subtle yet unmistakable. It is only natural for the author, like any normal human being, to dream of life and happiness as nothing but gifts of love. Remarkably, after reading some of her poems, one gets a sneaky feeling of her having borne the scars of breakdown and subsequent resurrection of her soul purely on the basis of her optimism. The touching feel for women is unmistakable in such poems. Attia, being a proponent of women empowerment, her poetry indicts the people who undermine the rightful struggle of women for an equal role. Imagining herself as if she were a young adult, the poetess has observed the happenings all around her from that very perspective and has painted the canvass of life accordingly.
