Pre-meditated and strategic expansion approaches in livestock production system would therefore pay rich dividend not only in terms of poverty alleviation but would contribute to the burgeoning demand of food security. While these projections offer major prospects for livestock production, the emerging concern for environmental deterioration and food safety linked to intensive livestock production are key issues of apprehension. These factors involve different dimension in relatively fragile ecosystem of hills and thus needs special emphasis and consideration. This compilation focuses on latest updates on livestock health and production science with emphasis to hilly areas. It will help the Livestock and Veterinary Sciences students, teachers, researchers, policy makers and extension workers in understanding the issues involved and technological advances that can help in adapting livestock husbandry in these areas to the challenges of ever-increasing demand of animal products and newer food safety regulations.
Dr S K Gupta, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Sher-e-Kashmir Univeristy of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu is recipient of Gold medal for his MVSc degree and has more than 30 years of experience in teaching, extension and research in the field of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr R K Sharma, Head, Division of Animal Nutrition, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Sher-e-Kashmir Univeristy of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu has more than 24 years of experience in teaching, extension and research. Dr Sharma is awarded with gold medal for BVSc & AH degree programme, Dr S P Arora award for his MVSc research and Dr S K Ranjhan award for best Doctoral thesis in Animal Nutrition.
Dr M A Malik, Head, Division of Veterinary Public Health & Epidemiology, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Sher-e-Kashmir Univeristy of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu has more than 27 years of experience in teaching, extension and research.
Dr Arvind Kumar, Asstt. Prof. Division of Livestock Products Technology, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, Sher-e-Kashmir Univeristy of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu has more than 10 years of teaching, extension and research experience.
