Micro-LED: Future of Advanced Display Technology

Author Name: R. Ranjith | Format: Paperback | Genre : Educational & Professional | Other Details

Semiconductors made a strong way into display applications with the integration of LEDs in the early 2000s, allowing development of thinner and brighter electronic systems, and opening the way to a real display revolution. From traditional tube televisions to projectors, plasma screens to LCD and now O-LEDs, the consumer market has seen all manner of screen formats, definitions, and materials. As the smartphone, tablet, and high-def TV markets have exploded, there is a non-stop arms race between manufacturers to make screens that are thinner, smaller, brighter, and higher-definition than the competition. Usually, these factors are measured as single percentage point differences–until now.

The advent of Micro-LED technology promises to radically redefine how screens are made, what specs can be packed into screens of all different sizes, and the level of resolution LED screens are capable of. Micro-LED displays are considered a significant step forward in advancing display technology. These displays consist of multiple micro-LED chips mounted on a backplane (which is a thin-film transistor that switches the pixels on and off). Compared to conventional LED displays, micro-LED displays are expected to be more energy-efficient and brighter, with a faster response time. This book describes the brief overview of Micro-LED display technology and its manufacturing methods and technology developments.
