Psychotherapy for Depression Personal essays by a survivor

Author Name: Nishtha Singhal | Format: Paperback | Genre : Health & Fitness | Other Details

Since publication in October 2022, this book has helped readers, including patients and caregivers, appreciate how psychotherapy enables coping in depression. Further, psychotherapists have shared it with their patients in instances where doing so can positively impact their work together.

Nishtha, born 1986, lives with major depressive disorder or primary depression; she pursues regular treatment. When she was diagnosed in 2003, she or the society, were ill prepared to accept that a teenager could be mentally sick but look and act "normal." She suffered in denial and resisted proper treatment till 2009.

In her second book, "Confessions of a Depression Survivor" (2024, Notion Press), Nishtha shares what changed with a formal diagnosis, what rest and mental fog look like for her, how she sabotaged her own coping, what the depression says to her, how she struggles to exercise, what it means to do what makes her happy, her pity parties, and entries from her journal, among other reflections from living through chronic depression.

Nishtha is an independent copyeditor and proofreader, with an LLB from DU, MA in English Language and Literature from JNU and BA in Journalism from LSR. She lives in Gurugram.
