101 Delicious Memories Looking Back With Hunger

Author Name: Babli Mukerji & Ayesha Fuchs | Format: Paperback | Genre : Cooking, Food & Wine | Other Details

101 DELICIOUS MEMORIES is not only recipe book., this is also a book about nostalgia. I have attempted to chronicle the lifestyle of Bengal's gentry 75 to 80 years ago . This was a time of close and frequent interaction between family members and friends. Not that feuds and sharp differences of opinion did not occur. But, in times of crisis all differences were forgotten, and family closed ranks and stood in undivided solidarity This generosity of spirit was reflected in the lifestyle and somewhat lavish culinary habits of the Bengali families of those times.

Nostalgia comes more sharply into focus in the second half of the book called, "Amma's Rannaghor". Here are recipes contributed by my daughter Ayesha Fuchs from the handwritten recipe book she inherited from her grandmother Mrs. Kalyani Mukerji she called Amma. Certain recipes here have also been included from the repertoire her great grandmother Mrs. C.R. Das who was a renowned and talented cook of her times.

I welcome you Dear Reader to delve within these pages and share my nostalgic journey of 101 Delicious Memories with you.

Babli Mukerji & Ayesha Fuchs

It was very early in Babli Mukerji's life that she experienced the joy of cooking. It was both creative and emotional for her. Sugar and Spice was indeed Everything Nice.

To share this source of Happyness was the motivation that lead her to write her first two books e.g. "101 Bengali Recipes - Traditional Fare for the Modern Cook."  As well as " International Menus - 101 Recipes Dished up with Love"

"101 Delicious Memories - Looking Back with Hunger" is Mukerji 's third book. However, this is not merely a recipe book. It's a journey tinged with nostalgia with glimpses of a bygone era.  The gracious and elaborate lifestyle of post Victorian Bengal was reflected in the lavish culinary habits of that time. The recipes were passed on from generation to generation, and “101 Delicious Memories” will preserve this legacy, lest we forget.

This too is a part of our cultural heritage and cannot be forgotten.
