Subrat SaurabhAuthor of Kuch Woh PalHome in the Hills: A Granddaughter’s Tales of Childhood Adventures is a fictional collection of memories of the narrator as she remembers her childhood days spent at her grandma’s house in the hills. There, while with her friends Tristan and Maya and cousins Jay and Neil, she finds herself constantly accosted by the presence of her annoyingly intrusive neighbour Mr Feeny, who frequently bumbles into the backyard without invitation, with an eye towards wooing her seemingly unmoved grandma. Feeny’s shenanigans set the stage for tales of horror and petrifying hair loss. Such comical themes aside, the book also investigates how we deal with loneliness, betrayal and disaster, with each story ending in a nugget of wisdom.
Muskaan Shah
Home in the Hills: A Granddaughter’s Tales of Childhood Adventures is the debut work of Muskaan in Children’s fiction. A fifteen year old talented artist from Ahmedabad studying in Ahmedabad International School, Muskaan had her premier art exhibition in 2018. Reflecting a love for colours, her abstract paintings depict her observations of nature and the world with a sense of mystery. Apart from her finesse at the brush, she has a plethora of hobbies like reading and writing. While learning the French language, she discovered her interest in knowing about different cultures and her inclination to learn new languages.
Being brought up in Ahmedabad, she has not spent a lot of time in the midst of nature. This book brings alive all her desires of experiencing mishaps and lessons in a lovely manner in the setting of her childhood dreams. Her two main inspirations have been her grandmothers because they were a source for her to create the perfect grandma that she could think of.
