Mannu Rikshewala

Author Name: Tuhin | Format: Paperback | Genre : Literature & Fiction | Other Details

Who cares about the story of a rikshewala? They’re all the same – skeletons cycling rickety three-wheelers…

However, Mannu was different. He appeared to be an ordinary rikshewala, but he carried broken dreams in his lonely heart. He dreamed of rising above the creeping hunger and petty bargains for five-rupee-notes, every damn day of his life!

Ankita leaves her diary in his rickshaw by mistake. Scribbled on its yellow pages is her soul, which candidly speaks to Mannu’s ailing heart. And just when he thinks he has found something like love, destiny puts him on a cruel cross-road.

Sameer, Ankita’s boyfriend has a plan for everything – even as he struggles to balance his love and aspirations. One fine day, he finds himself face-to-face with the crude reality of a funny world!

While they are busy fighting through life, fate delivers Ankita a checkmate. As the clock ticks on, Mannu is the only person that stands between Ankita and half-past-dead Ankita. And just like that, the two men have to make life-and-death decisions.

Will Mannu trust his new-found instincts or good-old wisdom?

Will Ankita rise from the ashes?

Will Sameer find his heart or will he remain a man with a plan in a world with none?

Tuhin

Tuhin believes in experiencing life first-hand, and so he is content being labelled a jack of all trades. He retains the title of being an amateur in martial arts, occasional long-distance runner, nervous stand-up comedian, fill-in singer and an almost-there sketch artist. Tuhin was born in a middle class family in a small town of western Uttar Pradesh. Many of his childhood memories originate from congested roads and busy markets, and ubiquitous in these settings were thin, sweaty rikshewalas. From the passenger seat, Tuhin thoroughly enjoyed having casual conversations with them. He loved to see them enter an enthusiastic, often grumbling monologue, revealing carefully hidden secrets from the darkest crevices of society. These conversations, along with his first-hand observations during religious riots in his hometown, shaped his social and political views.

Tuhin has been writing ever since he can remember. Apart from fiction, he also writes about politics and macro-economics. His views on the Indian budget and renewable industry have been published by Business Line, Quartz and Energetica. He is an IIT (Roorkee) and ISB educated investment banker and lives in Mumbai.
