Notion Press’ “Our Struggle: East Asia Calling” Unravels Birth of the Indian National Army
Notion Press, India’s largest self-publishing company is coming out with its latest book “Our Struggle East Asia Calling”, an account of the author V N Krishna Pillai witnessing the formation of the Indian National Army. There are umpteen books available on India’s freedom struggle that lasted 90 years. Right from Rani Laxmibai’s call for the first freedom movement in 1857 to the Quit India Movement in 1942. Even after 72 years, the number of stories that emerge out of the archives are unfathomable. Not just that, some of them send a shive down your spine, because they are truly accounts of unsurmountable brevity of people who loved their motherland more than their own mother.
A name that always emerges when we speak about India’s freedom movement is Netaji Subash Chandra Bose. An iconic leader, Bose followed the path of weapons and vengeance to claim what was ours from the British. Notion Press’ new book is an account of the author witnessing the making of the Indian National Army.
The author V N Krishna Pillai, migrated to Malaya, now known as Malaysia after he lost his job in The Empire of India Life Assurance company as the representative of Travancore. To his dismay, Pillai could not find any livelihood in Malaysia, too. At the end, he settled for a teacher’s job at a Chinese school in Borneo. And, life would still not be kind to him, and he was thrown ousted from his job again. It was then that this perseverant man found the Indian Independence League of Borneo.
Amidst these developments was Subash Chandra Bose forming India’s battle troop for the freedom struggle. Bose was building the army recruiting Indian soldiers from the British forces. As Pillai motivated Indians through his valiant work towards the freedom movement, he also was witness to the formation of Indian National Army.
This short summary of the book is itself so exciting that you may now be keen on finding out what the book exactly has to say. Another piece of a legendary untold tale, this book “Our Struggle: East India Calling” is available in the print and online versions on notionpress.com and other leading e-commerce portals like Amazon and Flipkart.
Speaking about the book, the author V N Krishna Pillai, said, “It is indeed an honour for me to witness my account of the freedom struggle coming out in the form of a book. I hope readers are able to relate with my experiences and take some information about the struggle.”
VNK was essentially a destiny’s child and lived life as it came. He was into active politics right from his college days. After completing BA from HH The Maharaja’s College, he started working as the Travancore State representative of The Empire of India Life Assurance Company. But, in 1937, he lost the job due to the hostile action taken by the then Diwan of Travancore, Sir C P Ramaswami Iyer, against the company. He then sailed out to Malaya (now Malayasia) in November 1939, when World War II was raging in Europe. He was married just four days before he sailed to Penang. He failed to get a job in Malaya but secured a teacher’s post in a Chinese school in Kuching, Sarawak, Borneo. But the Japanese occupation of Borneo in December 1940 suddenly threw him out of job. And, in March 1941, he organised the Indian Independence League of Borneo. He never looked back and was into the movement the whole hog till the end of the World War II in 1945.
