Notion Press’ Next Echoes Intricacies of Human Emotions with Brutal Honesty

Heavenly Bodies and Human Things by Regina Gurung is the latest collection of poems from Notion Press, India’s largest self-publishing platform.

We have often come across human feelings expressed in the form of poems or couplets. And, these poems quite commonly invariably touch emotions like love, sorrow, depression, and pain. But, there are other emotions that we, as humans, perceive as uncommon or rather peculiar to discuss, which often do not get highlighted. The issue is that most people refrain from recognizing these emotions as human and normal.

So, here is an author who attempts to instill the thought of some so-called uncommon emotions as common. Regina, through her poetic verses, expresses the emotions of silence in the night when heavenly bodies wander around, longing to fulfill their incomplete wishes. Not just that, Regina also beautifully captures the emotions of longing for love, exploration of calm and chaos in the night, the trauma of sexual assault, a quest for home, and much more. What’s more compelling about this book is the beauty in which the author expresses feminism and the often-unexpressed emotions of a woman.

Sharing her emotions about the launch of this book, Regina Gurung says, “I was told to be courageous. This book is me taking that step. I have unapologetically penned what would otherwise be something really embarrassing such as being stuck up, insecure, unable to get over an ex, or simply just moving on. This is me telling you that you are not alone and it is in the heavenly bodies for us to go through these emotions. It’s what makes us human and so connected. The universality of something personal is baffling.”

“Anyone of you who grabs a copy and owns these words will definitely find the healing journey like I did.”

Regina Gurung is a native of Darjeeling, a small hill station in the foothills of the Himalayas in India. In her mid-20s, she ventured to Bangalore to pursue journalism and has been working with elite news publications for about four years. While journalism is her passion-turned-profession, poetry remains the art for her to express the unexpressed. It was in her childhood that she discovered the art of poetry in her but could not continue as she got busy honing her reporting skills. It was in the latter half of 2018 that she found her way back into poetry and conjured her first book Heavenly Body and Human Things.
