A chameleon here is whining for death for he can't prepone it. And he is looking forward to death for he wants to liberate himself. The sooner, the better. He took up an oath of celibacy which he thought would suffice for his liberation. It grew so rooted in his fancy and steeped in effort that one day in the summers, he was visited by a Divine dude.
So when asked to express a wish to be granted by the divine dude; it burst out of his mouth, "Anything less than a wife!"
The divine was mindful of his passing time and hurriedly granted, "Half-wife for you."
